What I’m looking Forward to This Summer
Summer… a time where I get to lay out in the sun, not do any homework (at least for a little while), and hang out with my friends.
My friends think I’m insane for going to camp… A time where I have to use my brain for another four weeks? And go to class? And have to be awake before noon? They think I’m crazy. I don’t see it as crazy. In fact, I’m really ridiculously thrilled!
I’m so excited to be attending MMLA for French this summer. Sure, I’m not as adventurous as I was last year, when I took Chinese, a language I’ve never had experience with before. I’ve been taking French for three years now, and we have a little love affair, to say the least. I feel more natural speaking French than I do English! (Okay, maybe I am a little crazy…) But my French speaking and listening skills are a little slow, which is one of the reasons why I’m going to MMLA. I’ll spend four weeks in language, improving my skills to a point I never could have done in class. Everyone at MMLA is there to improve and to learn, something you can’t really find anywhere else.
Also, I’ll get to celebrate Bastille Day in language! I’ve never had the chance to see how the French celebrate their national holidays.
MMLA hasn’t even started and I’m already paying more attention in class, trying to master my tenses so I’ll be ready to roll with the punches when MMLA comes around.
My dream is to study to Paris. Hopefully MMLA will show me what it’s like to live in the French language. While my friends go to the pool and sleep until noon, I’ll be doing something I love more than anything else. And I wouldn’t change it for the world.
Jasmine Hubara is junior in high school from Charleston, South Carolina. She is currently attending MMLA for Chinese, but also takes French and Spanish in school. This is her second year at Green Mountain College. Outside of school, she’s active in her synagogue youth and is busy with her senior thesis project and planning her future trip around the world (a girl can dream, right?).
