A Thank You Letter from SMC!
We wanted to extend a thank you for sharing your positive, spunky, hilarious, kind, and wonderful children with us this summer. It has been an absolute pleasure to document their day-to-day lives here at MIL, and we hope that it has been equally joyous to get a glimpse into this beautiful language-learning world.
In the past four weeks, we’ve watched your students make deep connections, struggle with difficult new words, embrace vibrant cultures, and laugh through every single up and down. Of the challenges a high school student could take on, leaving behind their mother tongue (and their cell phones!) for one month surpasses many. They’ve shared each moment with us, from sunny field trips to Branbury State Park to every wild Friday/Saturday night dance. We are proud, grateful, and most of all –– inspired by each one of them.
There is a great quote by Aristotle that reads, "The roots of education are bitter, but the fruit is sweet."
Today, your students will return home and leave behind their month at MIL. They have most certainly gained –– no, earned –– the ability to communicate in a new language. They have also forged longlasting connections, developed new perspectives, and grown up (just a little!). We know that the journey of language-learning is one of embracing the feeling of not knowing everything, of constantly asking questions, of allowing oneself to be "wrong." A bitter process, but the fruit of their progress has been the sweetest of all.
We hope that they loved this experience as much as we did.
Thank you for being a part of our summers, and have a wonderful rest of yours!
