Field Trips and Field Day for the French Academy!
Location: Saint Michael’s College
What the French Academy did today: Wow, what a seriously fun weekend for the French Academy! On Friday, the students kicked back, relaxed, and then attended their second dance during the evening. On Saturday, they took a trip into Burlington, where they were able to shop on Church Street and enjoy many of Vermont’s delights. Then, on Sunday, they joined Arabic, Spanish, German, and Chinese in “Olympic” activities, such as tug-of-war, sodoku, volleyball, soccer, and more! The Arabic Academy took home the winning prize, but the French Academy gave them a run for their money and had tons of fun! To conclude the weekend, the students attended an Academy-wide barbecue followed by an assembly to hype them up for the coming week.
Today, the students are returning to their normally-scheduled programming. Another full week of classes and CE’s awaits them!
In our classrooms…
Level 1 students are working on recognizing and naming parts of the body. Today, they’ll go outside for activities and practice labeling body parts on chalk outlines.
In Level 2 classes, today’s can-do statement is “I can participate in and talk about sporting events by asking and answering questions about games, rules, scores, player positions, etc.” They’ll go outside as well to play soccer, as well as design their own “new sport” with rules explained in-language.
By the end of today, Level 3 students will be able to “ask for and provide descriptions of places I know and places I would like to visit.” They will discuss stereotypes of tourists and create travel pamphlets for various locations.
Level 4 students’ can-do statement for today is “I can explain how learning about culture helps people adapt to cultural differences in target country/countries.” They will talk about strategies for living abroad and adapting to different lifestyles. Tomorrow, they will have the opportunity to listen to a guest speaker discuss their experiences of living abroad.
