Bonjour de Nantes!
The sun is back today after some light rain yesterday. Last night were the last cultural exploration courses of the program and, once all final projects were done, we all gathered in one room to chat and watch more Asterix animated movies together. It was a lot of fun!
Today, the students studied the subjunctive in their language classes, had an impromptu karaoke session during the break and discussed their activity of the afternoon: bread making at the windmill, thus expanding their French vocabulary with words like “moulin” (windmill), “farine” (flour), “meunier” (miller), “pâte” (dough), etc. The teachers also prepared the students for the Saint Malo and Mont Saint Michel visits we have scheduled on Saturday. They talked about the history of both sites, the impact of tourisn and, of course, all the little shops and restaurants not to miss.
In the afternoon we headed to the Moulin de l’Epinay, a windmill dating back to 1928. The miller showed us how the wings operate and how to crush buckwheat and wheat. We then used that flour to learn how to make bread, from making the dough to baking it in a wood-fired oven. I cannot even begin to describe the scrumptious smell emanating from the oven while we were waiting for the bread to be ready! Needless to say that the bread was devoured within minutes!
