Branbury Field Trip and Cartoon Creation at the German Academy!
Location: Saint Michael’s College
What the German Academy did today: Over the weekend, the German Academy had a fun, lakeside outing to Branbury State Park where students had free time to hang out, swim, and barbecue. They also experienced their first dance on Saturday evening, where they were able to get their groove on and enjoy the company of the pals they made this week. On Sunday, students reaffirmed their commitment to the German Language through a second Language Pledge™ ceremony. Today, the students returned to their regular schedule and rotated through a series of new Cultural Exploration classes! This week, they'll be playing traditional board games and creating their own set of animated cartoons!
In today's lessons...
Level 1 students practiced their communication skills through the can-do statement of "I can identify and name 5-10 food items I eat." They read menus, described food items, and identified contexts where they would eat certain meals.
In Level 2, students focused on interpersonal, interpretive, and presentational communication. Their can-do statements included "I can read and understand maps from the target culture(s) and my own," as well as "I can give simple directions on how to get from one place to another and what to do at each location." They practiced finding their way around a city using maps, giving and listening to directions in a game of "Hide and Seek," and identifying locations on a digital tour of Burlington.
Level 3 students focused on the same communication skills, but their can-do statement for the day was: "I can understand audio recordings and video about everyday life in the target country/countries." They compared and contrasted city and country life in the US, as well as in other countries.
