What the Nantes Academy did today: Today, students learned more about the Academy and one another. Throughout the day they were instructed on safety and rules, they participated in a workshop preparing them for full immersion in French with their teachers and Academic Director, they toured the campus with the RAs and made friends while shopping for fans and snacks. A few also took the STAMP placement test.
Before dinner they will sign up for Cultural Courses. This year we are offering the following 4: “Arts and the End of the World,” which looks at Graffiti and nature in Nantes; “Invented Worlds in French cinema and literature,” where they will study the Lumières brothers, Jules Verne and Méliès before making their own short movie; “Discovering France with Asterix,” a fun way to explore French history, geography and humor through comics; and finally “Introduction to the Francophone World,” where they will discuss the different French traditions, cultures and accents around the world, as well as colonization (and Nantes’ part in it) and decolonization.
After dinner, they will go back to their rooms to change before the Language Pledge® ceremony begins. Demain tout en français!
